Donald Peter Mackay, turd polisher extraordinaire, was a prop maker and effects specialist. He was also the very definition of a pacifist – a man who would stand by his beliefs, but never denigrate others for theirs. He had twinkle. He lit up the lives of those around him, bringing levity to even the sourest of situations with his trademark dark humour.
A biker through and through, Don would have at least 10 bikes in various states of undress at any one time. He was a wizard who could make designs on paper come to life, and had a real passion for his craft. He was always tinkering and creating – if he needed a part for something, and it didn’t exist, he would simply make it. When speaking to the specialists during his last few weeks, he couldn’t understand their lack of creativity as they told him there was nothing more they could do. He declared “If I was told to build a dragon that could only fly left, then I’d find a way to do it!” And we have no doubt he would.
Father, husband, brother and friend, Don Mackay has left his mark on many a heart and will continue to live on through countless colourful memories of him.
